Verizon Fios internet in New York

Verizon lists New York under Fios and also under 5G Home. The address check decides which product, if either, you can order.

New York is one of the Fios state buttons on Verizon's availability page. The page's Fios links for New York include New York City, Long Island, Albany and Buffalo. The same page's 5G Home section also includes New York. You can be in a Fios state and still be offered only wireless, or neither.

New York is a published Fios state

The Fios section says Fios is currently available in the metro areas below and includes a New York button. Linked examples include New York, Long Island, Albany and Buffalo. The page describes Fios as fiber-optic service in the mid-Atlantic and New England and says to use the availability checker. It does not say every New York address has a fiber drop.

Fios tier names on that page, from 300 Mbps through 5 Gig, depend on where you live. A tier that is absent at your address is not a hidden version of the same plan.

5G Home in New York is not Fios

New York also appears in the 5G Home location section. The FAQ says to enter an address to learn whether wireless home internet or Fios is what the home can get. Wireless service may need a workable path to a cell site, which is why the FAQ says some addresses on the same block can differ.

LTE Home, Home Internet Lite and Wi-Fi Backup are additional wireless names in that FAQ. Do not file them under Fios, and do not assume a new LTE Home plan can be opened. The FAQ says new LTE Home sign-ups are no longer available.

Check the New York address for Fios and for wireless home internet separately if both are offered.
Write the product name before comparing speeds.
Treat a ZIP-level screen as a lead only.
Keep Optimum or Kinetic comparisons on their own labels if those brands also qualify.

Other New York brands stay other brands

Optimum publishes a New York page and says some Optimum areas get cable rather than fiber. Kinetic publishes a different New York community list for Kinetic Fiber. A Fios qualification does not imply those products, and their absence does not imply Fios.

Frontier fiber, where the availability page says it may be offered, should keep the Frontier fiber name if that is what checkout shows.

A New York Fios note that stays true

Say: Verizon lists New York Fios metros including New York City, Long Island, Albany and Buffalo, and also lists New York for 5G Home. Then paste the address result. Leave the install question to that result.
