Name the reason to leave
If the bill rose, identify the expiring credit and any equipment or Wi-Fi charge. If video calls fail, compare an Ethernet test with Wi-Fi in the troubled room and measure upload at the hours you work. If the issue is an outage, record dates and provider support responses. A new provider can solve a last-mile or pricing problem; it cannot guarantee better placement of your home router.

Compare a genuine alternative
A fiber offer may improve upstream capability if fiber truly reaches the premises. Fixed wireless may install quickly but has address- and time-dependent signal. Compare the exact labels, equipment, data and 24-month cost; do not infer a technology from ‘fiber-powered’ marketing language alone.
Schedule and test replacement service first where possible, then request a written Spectrum disconnect date and return instructions for any provider-owned equipment. Keep a dated receipt and check the final bill.
Worked example (illustrative): Illustration: staying at $85/month for 12 months is $1,020. A qualified alternative at $70/month plus $100 installation is $940. Price the exit and protect the working line
A provider page may say an internet plan has no contract, but the household may have other bundled services or equipment obligations. Request the actual account's cancellation date, final-billing treatment and return channel before acting. Keep a screenshot or PDF of the replacement order. If the new service requires a drop or building permission, treat the appointment as provisional until the connection works inside the home.
The decision can rationally be ‘stay for now.’ A small projected saving can disappear after setup, overlap, a new router or a lost bundle discount. Conversely, a verified fiber offer with better upload and adequate cost may justify the work for someone sending large files daily. Write the win condition in one sentence—‘my 9 a.m. upload will no longer interrupt calls’—then test it before disconnecting Spectrum.
