Spectrum Premier or Gig: compare upload speeds at your address
Gig offers more download capacity, but the upload benefit depends on your address. Compare both Broadband Facts labels and the Wi-Fi equipment included in each offer.

Which Spectrum plan should you choose?
Compare Spectrum Internet 500 (Premier) and Internet 1 Gig (Gig) using both Broadband Facts labels for your address. Spectrum's disclosure lists 500/20 and 1,000/35 Mbps examples, but its footnote also lists symmetrical tiers in some locations (checked Sep 24, 2026).
For the disclosed examples, Gig doubles download and adds 15 Mbps of upload; that upload difference is not universal. Gig also includes Advanced WiFi, which is an add-on with Internet 500. Weigh the total price against your simultaneous use and large-file transfers.
Premier or Gig: match the tier to the job
Match the tier to the way your data mostly flows. The disclosure's 500/20 and 1,000/35 Mbps examples are 15 Mbps apart on upload; symmetrical offers in some locations can change that comparison. Start with your address's labels.

The 20 Mbps upload in the disclosure's Premier example equals the upload part of the FCC's 100/20 Mbps broadband benchmark, set on Mar 14, 2024. It is not a universal ceiling for Internet 500. Spectrum's own recommended minimum is lower, at 100 Mbps down and at least 10 up.
Premier, Gig, Internet 500, Internet 1 Gig: two names for each tier
Your bill may say Premier or Gig. Spectrum's plans page now sells the same tiers under new names.

Read the disclosure's footnotes with its main table: offerings can vary by market, and symmetrical tiers are available in some locations. The 2 Gig figures above are published typical speeds, not an advertised-speed promise for your address. These rows are a comparison, not a complete list of every Spectrum offer. Spectrum describes its network as fiber-powered, with coaxial cable to the home. In the FCC's data, Charter, which runs Spectrum, reports cable at 33,899,996 residential locations and fiber to the premises at 2,284,619 (data as of Dec 31, 2025).

Where you'd notice the difference
In these examples, moving from 500/20 to 1,000/35 Mbps saves about four minutes on the game and almost half an hour on the video. For a symmetrical offer, calculate again using that offer's upload rate instead of assuming a 15 Mbps difference.
Premier or Gig for a streaming family, a video editor and a gamer
A family of four that mostly streams
Two TVs, two phones and a laptop for homework, with little uploading. Premier fits: five devices sit in the band Spectrum pairs with 100-300 Mbps, so 500 Mbps leaves headroom. The Wi-Fi add-on is optional.
A remote worker who sends large files daily
A video editor uploads client files every afternoon. If the address labels show 20 and 35 Mbps uploads, the faster rate cuts the ideal transfer time by about 43%. If symmetrical tiers are offered, compare those upload rates instead; the benefit can be very different.
A gamer with 100 GB downloads
New games and updates arrive in 100 GB chunks. At 500 Mbps that is about 27 minutes of downloading, and about 13 at 1 Gbps. Gig fits if the console or PC is wired to a gigabit port.

What changes in your home network
Spectrum says its speeds are for wired connections, so Wi-Fi results can be lower on either tier.
Gig includes Advanced WiFi, and Spectrum's disclosure says customers may use their own modem or gateway. If you already own a good router, the Advanced WiFi that comes with Gig is worth less to you.

Spectrum's disclosure says you may need new equipment to reach its advertised speeds, so the modem questions matter as much as the tier.
- Is my plan Internet 500 (Premier), Internet 1 Gig (Gig), or something older?
- What upload speed does each address-specific Broadband Facts label show, and are symmetrical tiers offered here?
- Is Advanced WiFi included in my offer, or an add-on?
- When does the introductory rate end, what is the later monthly price, and does changing tiers end an existing discount?
- Is Internet 2 Gig sold at my address?
- Does my current modem or gateway support the faster tier, or do I need an upgrade?
- Can I keep using my own modem on this tier?
Our Sep 21, 2026 cost study recorded a 12-month Spectrum Internet 500 rate with no month-13 amount stated, and optional Advanced WiFi. That historical sample does not establish today's offer; get the later rate and equipment charges for your order in writing.
The upload line on each tier's Broadband Facts label is the number this choice turns on. Spectrum has had to show those labels at checkout since April 10, 2024.

Does Spectrum Gig include Wi-Fi equipment?
Yes. Spectrum includes its Advanced WiFi equipment with Internet 1 Gig, the tier its disclosure calls Gig, and sells Advanced WiFi as an add-on with Internet 100 and Internet 500 (checked Sep 24, 2026). Internet 2 Gig, sold in select markets, comes with Invincible WiFi. Spectrum also lets customers use their own modem or gateway.
Does Spectrum have data caps on these tiers?
No. Spectrum lists no data caps and no contracts on its current internet plans, including Internet 500 (Premier) and Internet 1 Gig (Gig), and its broadband disclosure says there is no charge for extra usage (checked Sep 24, 2026). Moving between the two tiers doesn't change how much data you can use.
How does Spectrum measure its typical speeds?
Spectrum says an independent third party measures its typical speeds, using a method similar to the FCC's Measuring Broadband America program. The tests run at the modem, not at your laptop or phone, so Wi-Fi is not part of the result. Spectrum publishes the results in its residential broadband disclosure (checked Sep 24, 2026).
Is Spectrum Gig worth it over Premier?
Compare the upload speeds and total prices on both address-specific offers. Gig's extra download capacity can help with frequent big downloads, and its included Advanced WiFi may replace an add-on charge on Internet 500 (Spectrum, checked Sep 24, 2026). The upload benefit varies: the disclosure's 20-to-35 Mbps example does not describe the symmetrical tiers available in some locations.
