How we research and compare internet service

A useful comparison starts with eligibility and fit. We assess what the reader is trying to do, explain the evidence, and make uncertainty visible. We do not publish a universal numeric provider score or claim that one provider is best for every household.

Our decision order

1. Confirm the service address. A provider name in a ZIP estimate does not prove it serves a specific building or apartment.
2. Match the actual workload. Compare simultaneous download and upload needs, then examine Wi-Fi, latency and reliability separately.
3. Compare material terms. Look at the introductory period, later price, equipment, installation, data allowance, eligibility and cancellation conditions.
4. Plan the transition. Confirm installation and test the replacement before canceling essential existing service.

Evidence and freshness

Provider terms, broadband labels, regulator guidance and product support documentation are preferred sources. A starting research URL is not proof of an offer. Where a guide discusses a changing product, its sources and review date identify what was checked. National advertising can differ from the offer shown after an address check.

We avoid quoting a specific price or eligibility rule when we cannot substantiate its current scope. Missing costs are unknown, not zero. Our calculator labels examples as illustrations and shows an incomplete result when required amounts are missing.

Coverage estimates

The ZIP explorer uses a portfolio-produced area mapping derived from the FCC Broadband Data Collection June 2025 filing, exported August 6, 2026. It is not the current FCC map and is not address qualification. Its area-level inference can include a provider that cannot serve your property and omit one that can. Recommendations and compensation

Commercial relationships help support the site. They do not establish that a faster tier is suitable or that an advertised offer is available. What our content does not claim

A guide is not a lab test, a live quote or a nationwide customer survey. Hypothetical examples are labeled. The cost and speed tools use stated inputs and assumptions, not a prediction of a future bill or guaranteed performance. We do not invent reviewer identities, customer ratings or provider measurements.
