Truckee, in Nevada County, has more Optimum locations than any other California town: 11,817, at 90% of homes, all on cable.

Monterey and Seaside
Both towns are on Optimum's list, in Monterey County, but FCC shows little Optimum in either. It reports 75 locations in Monterey, at 0.9% of homes, and 1,214 in Seaside, at 15.4%.
Cable reaches 99.1% of Monterey homes all the same. At most addresses, that cable comes from a company other than Optimum.

The listed towns with the most Optimum locations fall in two groups. One is in Humboldt County: Eureka, McKinleyville, Arcata and Fortuna. The other is Truckee, in Nevada County, and Mammoth Lakes, in Mono County. Blythe, in Riverside County, stands alone.
Fiber from anyone is thin in much of that footprint. FCC shows none in McKinleyville or Fortuna, and 14.4% of homes in Mammoth Lakes.

Deciding in California
- Truckee or Mammoth Lakes: Optimum cable reaches most homes and fiber is rare. If you upload a lot, read the cable plan's upload figure first.
- Eureka: other companies report fiber at 75% of homes, so put a fiber plan next to Optimum's cable.
- Rocklin, Auburn or Shaver Lake: all three are on the list, but FCC shows no Optimum location inside any of them.
- Monterey or Grass Valley: FCC shows Optimum at 0.9% of Monterey homes and at 1 location in Grass Valley. Start with the other companies there.
- Earp: it is on the list but is not a Census place, so the table has no FCC row for it.
