Which Optimum Fiber tier fits your address, from 300 Mbps to 8 Gig?
Optimum runs a fiber network and a cable network. Upload is where they differ most, so find out which one reaches you.

First confirm your address gets Optimum Fiber, not Optimum’s cable service. In FCC data as of Dec 31, 2025, Optimum reports cable at 5,160,863 residential locations and fiber at 2,276,354 in the 16 states we track. Optimum Fiber tiers upload as fast as they download; 95.3% of its cable locations list 35 Mbps up.
Optimum Fiber tiers, once the order says fiber
Optimum lists 300/300 Mbps, 500/500 Mbps, 1 Gig at 940/940 Mbps, 2 Gig and 8 Gig (checked Sep 24, 2026). The rows below assume the order says fiber.

The order says Optimum cable, not fiber. In Optimum’s Dec 31, 2025 FCC filing for the 16 states we track, most cable locations list 940 Mbps down and 35 up. Check the upload speed on the current plan’s Broadband Facts label before comparing it with fiber at your address.
A fiber home choosing between 300 and 500
Three people stream and one works from home. Both tiers advertise equal upload and download speeds; actual call quality also depends on Wi-Fi and other network traffic. If an evening wired test on 300 shows the line filling up, consider 500 alongside the current plan terms.
A home lab where 8 Gig is sold
A server and two workstations with multi-gig ports sit on one switch. 8 Gig helps only if the router and switch pass that rate. A laptop with a 1 Gbps port will see no change beyond a gigabit. Gigabit versus multi-gig checks each link.
Fiber or cable: what Optimum’s FCC filing shows

Cable is reported at more than twice as many locations as fiber in these states, and one location can appear in both. Most of the cable footprint lists 35 Mbps up, a small fraction of any fiber tier’s upload. Optimum itself says fiber is not available in all areas, and some areas get internet over the cable network with different speeds (checked Sep 24, 2026). Separate the rate lock from the whole bill
Our Sep 21, 2026 check of one Optimum Fiber offer found three clocks. The service price had a 60-month lock. The gateway was free for 12 months, then subject to capped yearly increases. After the 60 months, the service price could rise each year up to a stated cap, and the later price itself was not given.
Update, : Optimum has changed this offer again since the Oct 6 note. Fetched Oct 28, 2026, its fiber page shows a promotional 500 Mbps service rate of 25 dollars a month plus taxes and fees for 12 months, then an increase of no more than 15 dollars a month per year until standard rates. It calls that a 1-year price lock. Gateway terms on the same page are not a single figure: one block charges nothing for 12 months, and another charges 5 dollars a month for 12 months, after which either can rise by up to 5 dollars a month per year until standard rates. The Sep 21 row, 40 dollars for 60 months, stays the audit record. The Oct 6 description of a price lock of up to 3 years that required SecureWifi+ is no longer what the page states.

Before you accept an Optimum installation date
- Does the order say fiber or cable, and which tier?
- Which payment method does the discount assume, and what is the bill without it?
- What does the gateway cost now, and after the first 12 months?
- When would a cancellation take effect? Optimum says a cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period, except in Connecticut and New Jersey.
- Where will the fiber enter, and where will the gateway sit?

When does an Optimum cancellation take effect?
Optimum says a cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period, except in Connecticut and New Jersey (checked Sep 24, 2026). Plan any switch so the new service is installed and tested before that date. Ask Optimum for the effective date in writing, and keep proof of any equipment you return.
